Spacey Jane – Booster Seat

Fremantle four piece Spacey Jane have been gaining fans since they started, a mere four years ago, with every piece of music they have released. After a handful of EP’s it was their debut album ‘Sunlight’, released in June 2020 that showed how significant that following was. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart.

The song that has captured the most attention is ‘Booster Seat’. Over the last six months the song continues to win over new fans and is now starting to climb the Spotify Australia Chart (#58 at writing) and looking like factoring in triple j’s annual Hottest 100 poll.

‘Booster Seat’ is a song about a complex but common issue of anxiety and depression taking control away from you and relying on others in the same way children trusted their parents to keep them safe. Spacey Jane make the subject lighter, breezy and the sound effortless and, as their album title suggests “sunny”.

‘Booster Seat’ is a special song and one that I’m sure will be entering many more peoples worlds as we drift into 2021.

Troy Cassar-Daley – Back On Country

Australian country music legend Troy Cassar-Daley announces his first studio album in five years, THE WORLD TODAY, is set for release March 19 via Sony Music Entertainment Australia. This will be the 11th studio album from the multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winner in just over 3 decades of making music. PRE-ORDER HERE

Alongside the announce, Troy has released the first single from the album, ‘Back On Country’. Speaking on the track Troy explains, “‘Back On Country’ is a term largely used by Indigenous Australians and it gives us the feeling of belonging. My dream is that everyone can feel connection and have the responsibility to look after Our land together as one people.” The driving, guitar laden track caries that message with Troy’s iconic vocals and powerful song writing: “No matter what your bloodlines / we belong to this land”. LISTEN HERE

The forthcoming album was sparked from a moment of deep reflection, as Troy explains, “THE WORLD TODAY songs started flowing not long after losing my Father. I looked at myself in the mirror one morning and asked myself “what do I have to say?” and “where do I go from here?” Then COVID hit and I was like a rudderless ship bouncing in a sea of nothingness. Instead of staying in the darkness that had surrounded me I found light in making music and telling stories, which was my saving grace as a kid and to this day as an adult. Suddenly I had 25 songs, a new deal with Sony Music Australia and some purpose to make new music once again.”

Pulling himself from that dark time, Troy found joy in writing with old friends and playing bass and drums on some of the rough demos in his home studio. Joined by friends and long-time collaborators – producer Matt Fell and engineer Ted Howard.

Troy’s songs have been the soundtrack to the everyday triumphs, struggles and good times for Australians from our small towns to the big cities and this record is no different. It’s testament to the longstanding career of the 50th inductee into the prestigious Australasian Roll Of Renown, who has also been awarded numerous accolades including 37 Golden Guitars, 4 ARIAs, 3 APRA Song of the Year awards, 9 Deadlys (Australian Indigenous Artist Awards), 4 CMAA Entertainer of the Year awards plus 2 NIMAs (National Indigenous Music Awards).

After spending the majority of 2020 writing and recoding at home, Troy will once again hit the road in 2021 with a run of dates, including Bluesfest Byron Bay, Gympie Music Muster, Deni Ute Muster and Savannah in the Round. For more information and tickets visit https://troycassardaley.com.au/touring/ . up to become the largest solo tour he has ever undertaken. Adam will perform over 40 shows across NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD and SA from February to September 2021.

Tim McGraw & Tyler Hubbard – Undivided

When friends talk music and those friends happen to be two music icons – three-time Grammy® winner and CMA Entertainer of the Year Tim McGraw and myriad American Music Award, Academy of Country Music and CMA Award winner of superstar duo Florida Georgia Line Tyler Hubbard – the result is “Undivided.” The upbeat and heartfelt collaboration arrives with an official behind-the-scenes music video of the two friends in the studio. The song will be included on the Deluxe version of McGraw’s #1 album Here On Earth , out later this spring on Big Machine Records.

Co-written by Hubbard & Chris Loocke, “Undivided” came out of Hubbard’s time spent soul-searching on his bus while waiting out a positive COVID-19 quarantine. In that space, examining his own ability to judge too quickly, he considered the values he was raised with and looked to his faith for guidance and inspiration. But rather than writing a somber song, the process brought him to a place of hope, and he dug into his roots for a song that sparkled with a beat and positivity.

“Music gives us hope and brings us together in a way nothing else can. This doesn’t mean we don’t have work to do. Quite the opposite,” McGraw explains. “I loved the positivity of this song and that it called me to check myself and to remember that love is bigger. It’s why I knew this song had to be my next single with Tyler as soon as he sent it to me.”

“I knew immediately when I finished it, I had to text it to Tim. He has a way of communicating with the world that is unique in music,” Hubbard said of the feel-good song and collaboration. “For him to want to perform with me was an amazing feeling. The song is about coming together, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Produced by Corey Crowder, Hubbard, McGraw and Byron Gallimore, the banjo and acoustic guitar driven track creates a perfect space for McGraw’s gift as a voice of not just wisdom, but living and learning, to pair with Hubbard’s wide-open rural truths and phased vocals.

I think it’s time to come together
You and I can make a change
Maybe we can make a difference
Make the world a better place
Look around and love somebody
We’ve been hateful long enough
Let the good Lord reunite us
‘Til this country that we love’s
Undivided

Adam Harvey – All For Rum

Sony Music Entertainment Australia will release SONGS FROM HIGHWAY ONE, Adam Harvey’s new studio album on Friday, February 19. Inspired by his years touring around the beautiful country he calls home, the album is the multiple ARIA Award nominee and 8 time Golden Guitar winner’s fifteenth studio album and his first self-produced.
Alongside the album announcement, Adam has also released the single and video for ‘All For Rum’. Filmed at the iconic site of “sweetest nectar in the world” in Bundaberg, Adam puts a cheeky spin on the classic quote “all for one and one for all”.
The track joins already released singles, ‘Ramblin’ Fever’, featuring Lee Kernaghan, and the album’s opener ‘Highway Number One’ which quickly climbed to #1 on the iTunes chart after it’s release in March this year. Originally a Merle Haggard tune, ‘Ramblin’ Fever’ saw Adam and Lee earn a Tamworth Golden Guitar nomination for Vocal Collaboration of the Year (2021).
To write and record his fifteenth studio album, he brought in good friends, collaborators and co-writers such as Graeme Connors and Colin Buchanan. There’s a reunion with Beccy Cole, Darren Coggan and Felicity Urquhart. With the blessing of Joy McKean, the late Slim Dusty makes an appearance on Adam’s version of ‘Angel Of Goulburn Hill’.
In a nutshell SONGS FROM HIGHWAY ONE is about adventure, freedom and looking forward while, with a writer’s taste for nostalgia, taking the time to look through the rear-view mirror of life as well. Recorded at The Music Cellar on the NSW Central Coast with engineer Jeff McCormack, Adam relished the role of producer on the project. “I’ve had all sorts of different producers through the years,” he recalls, “and I just thought, ‘Why don’t I have a crack at it myself?’ It’s another challenge and a whole lot more work than I actually expected. I learnt a hell of a lot too.”
In 2021 Adam will return to his love for being on the road, embarking on the Highway One Tour. Beginning in February 2021, Adam has put together a schedule of tour dates that add up to become the largest solo tour he has ever undertaken. Adam will perform over 40 shows across NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD and SA from February to September 2021.

PORTIA CLARK with DARIUS RUCKER – “Ready To Fall”

HOW IT HAPPENED

Not long ago Portia was homeless yet her fighting spirit which she inherited from her father who died in conflict as a Freedom Fighter in South Africa where he was fighting apartheid is what kept her going and by chance back

stage at a performance in Minneapolis, Portia crossed paths with country music legend and Hootie & The Blowfish lead singer, Darius Rucker.

Portia was invited by Darius back to his green room with his band where they had a Corona and Portia wasn’t shy to ask Darius for a song in the future together, Darius responded with no hesitations “for sure”.

The duet stayed in touch and when Darius came down under for an Aussie tour he reached out to Portia for a catch up at his Sydney show where the opportunity for the duet was advanced and Portia was introduced by Darius to his keys player Lee Turner, an aspiring and talented Nashville producer and song writer.

Portia later joined Darius in Nashville and they hit the studio where Portia was mesmerised every time Darius hit his famous note from Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Let her Cry” hit.

When Darius was recently asked about the ensuing release, he shared:

“Portia has an incredible voice and a powerful story. I was honoured to join her for such a beautiful song.”

On to this year and Portia is currently shooting the music video in Western Australia with Darius will be filming his part in Nashville.

Portia is currently working on a new project for live shows where she will salute women of music and perform their hits.

ABOUT

“When I first heard Portia Clark’s I was not only moved by her voice but also her incredible story of survival. This is an artist that deserves to be heard”. Russell – Kaos

Australia’s Portia Clark has known and endured abandonment, abuse, homelessness, hunger, heartbreak, tragedy and the true meaning of sacrifice. With the power of God’s love and her love for music she has overcome these circumstances and is honored to be living in Australia.

In Portia’s short career, she has shared the same stage with music royalty such as Katy Perry, Gene Simmons, John Fogarty and many more and has performed for two former US Presidents, George Bush & Bill Clinton.

Luke O’Shea & Ashleigh Dallas – Long Way ‘Round

Three-time 2021 Golden Guitar finalist, Luke O’Shea, and Australian country music royalty, Ashleigh Dallas, have joined forces on the brand new single ‘Long Way ‘Round’, lifted from Luke’s celebrated and Golden Guitar-nominated Album of the Year, ‘There In The Ochre’.

“Don’t believe them when you hear them say
Things were so much better back in the old days!
There’s nothing greater than the here & now!
So just take my hand & join me on the long way ’round”

“This song was an absolute joy to perform with the very cheeky Ash Dallas,” Luke said. “She is a great mate and it deliberately flies in the face of all the doomsday reporting that we are currently collecting from all over the world!”

The positive, Motown meets country upbeat groove of the song hooks the listener in with a catchy whistle and a carefree vibe.

“The world is a crazy place at the moment!” Luke said. “But when you just change your focus to appreciating what you have around you – in the right here, right now – then life all of a sudden becomes pretty good. ‘Long Way ‘Round’ is just a reminder to take a deep breath and have a good look around.”

It’s the attitude that has seen Luke collect 11 Golden Guitars over the years and this January he could also add Male Artist, Heritage Song and Traditional Country Album of the Year to the mantelpiece.

“I do have to pinch myself sometimes that people are willing to put their vote next to my name, because I certainly don’t make it easy for them,” he laughed. “My songs have to mean something to me on a deep level. So that if I’m going to take the very precious time, and go to the effort and expense of recording a song, then I must have the conviction that it’s a message worth sharing – even if it goes against public opinion.”

No more so than Luke’s last single and nominated Heritage Song of the Year, ‘Happy Australia Day’. “That song came from seeing a big gaping hole in the curriculum being taught in our schools,” Luke reflected. “The song and video are designed to be used as a teacher resources for History and English classes and I’m humbled to say that many schools have already adopted it into their systems providing a new and valuable perspective of our Australian history.

“Being asked to perform this song (Happy Australia Day) at the 2021 Golden Guitars – alongside Kevin Bennett who I wrote it with, fills me with such pride that our industry is so open minded and once again up for the challenge of a challenging song. “That was the case with ‘Three Brothers (The Great War)’ and I have never forgotten just how respectful and intelligent the Australian country music audience is especially when given tough subject matter!”

In saying that, Luke said he also sometimes needed to get back to just having fun in songs – and that’s what ‘Long Way ‘Round’ is all about.

The two multiple award-winning artists have also joined forces with celebrated director Jay Seeney to make a stunning new video for the song that showcases the natural beauty of the Tamworth, Nundle and New England region.

“It was a hilarious – and an exhausting day!” Luke laughed. “Knowing Ash is an incredible linedancer – and that I have two left feet – we thought it’d be fun to come up with a little dance that we could film over and over again in some of my favourite places on Earth! Fifty-odd takes later I was knackered! But, Ash and Jay were like the little energizer bunny and just kept on going. It’s a pretty spectacular clip that captures a lot of the magic of the area – and I think you’ll be able to tell for yourselves that we really did take – the long way ’round!”

Middle Kids – Questions

“Led by the powerful vocals of Hannah Joy, the trio deal in infectious indie pop-rock.”

– THE SUNDAY TIMES

“Arena sized rock, masquerading as warm, thoughtful, 1980’s styled indie-rock”

– NEW YORK TIMES

“Radiant, anthemic indie rock, balancing doubt ridden lyrics with clear eyed execution”

– PITCHFORK

“How does a band get this good, this quickly?”

– BILLBOARD

Middle Kids today reveal their boldly titled second album Today We’re The Greatest , their most personal and courageous effort to date, will be released on 19 March. In celebration of the album news, Middle Kids have released a new single and video ‘Questions’ alongside the announcement of an east coast Australian tour throughout May. In Australia, the band will perform unforgettable nights at three of the country’s most stunning seated concert spaces: Brisbane’s QPAC, Melbourne Recital Centre and Sydney’s City Recital Hall.

Today We’re The Greatest is the Sydney-based rock trio’s follow up to their 2018 triple j J Award-winning, debut album Lost Friends, a record which earned support slots with the likes of Bloc Party, War on Drugs and Cold War Kids as well as performances on several US late night shows including Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late, Late Show with James Corden.

The band (comprised of lead singer and songwriter Hannah Joy, multi-instrumentalist Tim Fitz and drummer Harry Day) recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Lars Stalfors (St.Vincent, Soccer Mommy, Purity Ring). Moving away from lyrics of a more conceptual nature, Today We’re The Greatest is the open, uninhibited product of fearless collaboration.

Showing a real vulnerability, Joy pulls directly from her own experiences, all the while breaking down barriers she had previously set for herself. About the new record, she says , “I want to make music that loves its listener. Music that makes people feel seen, seen in the tiny little places that hide away in their hearts. I want people to hear our music, and feel a sense of love. And when I say love, it can be challenging, intense and tough. But it’s in the guts.”

To commemorate the album announcement, Middle Kids today share their monumental new single ‘Questions’. Following on from last year’s ‘R U 4 Me?’, ‘Questions’ is a charged three minute odyssey which sees Joy struggle poetically with concepts of honesty and intimacy over an explosive rhythm section and a stunningly orchestrated brass-filled climax.

As Joy explains, ‘Questions’ is about the fallacies of intimate relationships. “I used to drink a lot and most of my previous relationships revolved around this. I don’t think I ever really knew them or they me as a result. ‘Questions’ is about people being around each other but not being close. People who are in intimate relationships can stop asking questions of each other because they are uncomfortable and confusing.”

‘Questions’ is accompanied by a magical and chaotic one-shot video directed by the band’s cinematic collaborator W.A.M Bleakley. Watch HERE.

Also announced today is Middle Kids first headline Australian Tour in almost two years. The Today We’re The Greatest Tour will take in Australia’s east coast beginning at Brisbane’s QPAC Theatre on Friday 13 May, Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday 21 and finishing with a hometown show at City Recital Hall in Sydney on Friday 28 May. Pre-sale begins Tuesday 19 January at 10am local time.
